Happy New Year!!!!

Hello everyone or maybe just that one person who will read this blog or is still reading or following.  I have had a very hard time finding the time to come each day and blog, life seems to get in the way and it is so hard to set aside a little me time.  I am starting out this year on new foot...I think I said the same thing last year..oh well...my New Years Resolution is to find more balance in all areas of my life, it seems that something always gets pushed aside.  I am going to try very hard to give time and attention to each area of my life and find more balance in doing so.
We have had a very busy year in 2012 and there were many happy days and some very sad days near the end of the year.  Richard and I are doing great working and trying to adjust to the empty nest we now have and we also are trying to convert our home into a home that suits our needs now that the children no longer live here.  We converted Brittney's room into Isabella's room.  I sang "you are my sunshine" to her when she was growing inside her mommies tummy, it was the first song I sang to her when I held her the first time, so her room at our house is taking on the theme of  the "sunshine room"  it is a work in progress....lots of fun deciding what to include in the decor and decorating!!!
Brittney and Jeremy are doing great working and Brittney has decided to go back to school, a little different than I had planned but she will be starting at Paul Mitchell School hair design Monday, she is excited and I am realizing she needs to do what makes her happy.  I am so proud of the wife and mother she is.  Jeremy is just a perfect fit for our family, he loves our daughter and granddaughter and he takes such great care of his family.
Ethan is working at Sacs 5th Ave distribution center as Loss Assesets department, he is enjoying the new job and planning a trip to New York in few weeks to visit the Store there.
Of course Isabella has had an eventful year. Learning so many things and experiencing her 1st.  from crawling, to walking, feeding herself, talking, riding a horse, riding a plane for the first time.  We love our sweet baby girl and enjoy getting to spend time with her each week.  She is with us on Tuesday night until Thursday when we take her to her mommie and daddy.  She has been a ray of sunshine in our lives.
My brother and his boys moved to our hometown to have better opportunities also.  Jamie is in a great school here and Joshua attends the school where Ethan and Britt attended.  James my brother is working and buying a place of their own. God has been so good to bless him and his family.  Please continue to pray for them as they are on this journey to get life in balance.
We received some terrible new in October.  My sister Shirley's daughter Betsy passed away.  She was only 17 years old and it has been the one thing that has consummed our lives since October 20, 2012.  She was a beautiful girl and had so much life left to live, but she also had some personal problems and it was so hard for her parents to be able to help her.  Teen suicide is one of the most painful ways to lose a loved one...it is hard to explaine, hard to understand, and it carrys a stigma or embarrsement with it that shouldn't be.  We need to put a face to this silent killer and make our children aware and our parents aware of the dangers that exist.  Believe me we never had any idea this could happen in our family.  We mourn our loss and we pray for God's grace and mercy for her soul.  She was so loved and her memorial was amazing and beautiful...I think this is probally the hardest thing I have dealt with personally with my family.  There have been times I just didnt know what to do or say.  My sister and her husband came home for the Holidays and we celebrated as best we could.  Life does go on and life is for the living...we are trying desperately to honor her life and make the neccesary changes in our lives to bring a face to this epidemic.
So in closing,  this last year has held many fun times, happy times, and some of the saddest times of my life.  But I know that God promises he will never leave us and we will never be faced with more than we can bear...he is here for us and comforts and guides us and loves us, if only we will cast our cares upon him, because he cares for us.  I have held tight to those words these last few months.
I pray you have had a good year and your family is happy and healthy.  May God bless each of us in the coming year and it feels so good to be back here with friends....I pray that I may continue to blog and share my life so that one day my grandchildren may see a part of me and who I am.  Until the next time....Love and Hugs!!!!

Happy Days!!!

Do you remember the old sitcome "Happy Days" it was a show about life in bygone era!!  It makes you wish for simpler times and it seems that all the problems were solved by the end of the program.  Well I was just thinking how these are my "happy days" so much has happened these last two years, there has been so much change. Loss of my dear Mother, the accident with my nephew (which has been a loss of a big part of our sweet boy Jamie), the loss of children living at home (Ethan moved out).  I believe with the loss God brings us the balance of friends, family, and loved ones  and joy to go along with the sadness we may have experienced.  God has an amazing way of balancing our lives, if we allow him to.  He is the only true and faithful balance and he brings peace that to our lives.
At the moment it is "happy days" around the Boyd household!! We know those "sad days" will return and we will endure, we will forge ahead with whatever life has to bring our way, always knowing in who we put our trust, devotion, and faith to lead us through and carry us when we can no longer stand.  We will have "happy days" again because he has promised to care for us if we will cast our cares on him.  Thank you God for your presence and forgiveness and love and most of all for the sacrifice you made for me....Thank you for these "happy days" all good things come from you.

"Our Daughter's Happily Ever After"

This is one of the many wonderful things that happened in our life last year!!  She was a beautiful bride and he was a handsome groom...we pray for a long and happy life for them both, and we pray for God to be the center of their home as they raise Isabella and future children...May God bless and keep them.

Has It Really Been 2 Years!!!!!!

Wow I can't believe it has been 2 plus years since I last posted...If I have anyone who cares to read this blog....I will try to start over....Lots of things have happened in the last two years....
My nephew was in an accident in June 2009 he has a TBI (tramatic brain injury) this keep us busy trying to help him with his recovery...did I mention he was only 3 years old when this happened.  Later that same year, my dear mother passed away. It just seemed that 2009 was a year that I could not handle the blog with all the things I had on my plate to deal with that needed my immediate attention.  Well we went into 2010 with high hope for my nephew, recovering as best we could from loss of my mother and just trying hard to get back on course.  In August one of our biggest surprises came in the form of our daughter and her fiance announcing that they were expecting...This was very unexpected and sorta through us for a spin again.  We very quickly recovered from the shock and started to plan for her arrival and I must say although it was a shock..she has been one of the greatest surprises to happen in our lives and she has been the greatest blessing other than our children.  So April 1st of 2010 we welcomed our sweet Isabella (she was late, due March 27) but she came on her own terms and as if to say...the joke was on us....The wedding was the next thing on the agenda...We were planning a October wedding at Beach!!!  October 22, 2011 we gained a son...There were about 75 people in attendance and we watched our daughter get her "happily ever after" Our son is doing well living in Murfreesboro with daughther and her husband.  he is  not going to school at moment but working and trying to figure out his next step.  We are so blessed the last 2 plus years have held moments of worry, concern, heartbreak, shock, joy, and tears of happiness and saddness...we have survived...and we are stronger from our trials and God was in control the whole time...So I hope to continue this blog...especially since I have a sweet little one to pass it on too....and if she is the only one who reads this then I pray that she is pleased and knows me a little better.  God Bless until next time!!!

Camping Trip Company Picnic and Summer Fun!

The first full week of Summer Break!!! How did I spend it...to quote my grandmother "at times I felt like a chicken with it's head cut off." We had a wonderful weekend...wonderful but busy just the same.
We went camping at Rock Island and were so happy that Brittney and Ethan's agenda allowed them to be with us. If you are parents of young adults you understand where I am coming from. When your children get older it is harder to work out schedules so that you can be together without someones agenda interfering. When it does work out you have a very happy Mother. It was so much fun just camping, eating outside, and skiing on the lake, most of all being with family.

We also attended the annual Ben Lomand company picnic it was at Fall Creek Falls. The food was great and the time with friends was even better....softball game was a beyond fun!
I hope you had a fun weekend with your loved ones.

A beautiful Day!

Happy Anniversary to my sweet in-laws Sam and Betty Boyd. Today they are celebrating their 42nd anniversary. Isn't that a feat in itself. We love them and hope they have a wonderful day.

Today is also Miss Karigan Rae's birthday, she is 3 years old! Happy birthday sweet girl. I love you very much.

I started my water aerobics workout this morning. This year is a little different than years past. The pool is opening at 11:00 am so the class will be held in the swim lanes at 11:00. It wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. We have gotten spoiled having the pool to ourselves, guess we just need to learn to roll with the changes. If you are interested in joining us the classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursdays at 11:00. Jilleen McGregor teaches class and she is also a personal trainer.

I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful day!

I am back.....

Wow I can't believe it has been such a long time since my last post! Several people have asked about my lack of posting? Sorry, I didn't leave an explanation on why, (not sure I knew myself). I think I just needed a break!
I have been in overdrive and at times it felt like I have been spinning my wheels. This has absolutely hands down been the most hectic spring I can remember. Between school, Church, weddings, showers, births, and family... need I say more.
My mother is still in the Nursing Home recovering from her surgery and doing as well as can be expected. My family are healthy and well. Brittney and Ethan just finished their spring semester of College!!!! Yeah
Brittney is planning on attending MTSU in the fall and finishing up her degree in Education. They are both working this summer and having fun with friends. Richard and I are planning a vacation at the beach with them, trip to Pigeon Forge, some camping and I am going to see my mother very soon.
I hope you all have summer plans with your family! Most of all I hope we all can just relax and enjoy this time of the year.
I hope to get back to my daily grind of posting...we will see...I definitely will be checking in with you and seeing all the exciting things you have going on.
Have a blessed day!

Thank You!

I would like to start out by saying I am sorry I haven't posted lately! I have literally been covered up with life! I really appreciate all the comments and emails from my friends during my absence.
I have been dealing with my mothers health issues. She has gone through a couple of major surgeries lately. She is doing better and recovering. Please keep her in your prayers along with my sister and her family, who are taking care of her. It is hard having someone you love sick, but it is much worse when they are so far away.
I will be back to my normal routine and daily posting soon....I have missed keeping up with everyone.
Thank you for your love, prayers and support.

Guess What I got for Christmas??

Richard's Gift

Sheila's Gift

No I did not get a 40" flat screen HD LCD TV, but guess WHO did??? It is all he has talked about for months. So Santa was good to him this year. Of course me, being the wonderful wife that I am we just had to reward him. If you know Richard he is so humble and never ask for anything for himself so it was so easy to give in to his "little boy lust" for this "big boy toy"! To add to his cause he was.....yes you guess it, He was not feeling too well during Christmas, actually he was just down right sick....but you wouldn't have known that on Christmas morning! It was shameless, you just had to be there to see his face................... when Brittney and Ethan were ready to see what Santa had brought them....lol
Of course him being the wonderful husband that he is, he just had to share with me! Yes he gave me his cold! Yuck I have been so sick, but at least I avoided it until Saturday, the house was clean, toys (gifts) put away and then I could at last rest (be sick)! We are talking in bed for two days! I did go to the doctor today. I asked for a shot and medicine. I am feeling much better I might add.

He did take care of me in~between hooking up/playing with his Toy!
Thank you God for antibiotic shots and meds. we have a New Years Celebration after Church Wednesday night, his department from Ben Lomand are coming to the house Friday night for a Holiday party/get together, and I have family coming in from Alabama Saturday! There is no time to be sick! There is cooking, cleaning, party planning and much fun to be had.............................................................................................
yes Virgina there is a Santa Clause, but he is on Vacation after December 25th!!

I hope everyone hears/reads the sarcasm/joking in my voice/typing. I am very blessed to have a wonderful, faithful and devoted husband and two healthy loving children to share life with and I never forget this, even in the midst of our chaos! lol
I wish you all a very Happy New Year and safe and happy memory making Holiday with your loved ones ( even if they make you sick at times.) lol
Much Love and New Years Blessing from our Family to yours!!!
Coming soon "Dollar Store Christmas" just for you Jessica!

Merry Christmas

Dashing through the snow...Well we don't have snow, but it has been pretty cold lately. Has everyone's Holiday season been as hectic as mine?? I kid you not, I have will have attended between 12/15 events by the end of this month and several I have hosted!! Busy as a bee here, and it doesn't look as if it is going to slow down. I am not complaining God has blessed me and I am so grateful for the fellowship and friendship most of all.

I headed out with my friend Tawanna for a girl trip yesterday!! I miss her so much since she has been living in North Carolina and I love when she is in and we get some time together! I had a dr. Appt in Murfreesboro and a little stocking stuffer shopping to do. Have I mentioned how much I love stuffing stockings for my family?? We open gifts on Christmas morning and after the gifts we empty our stockings!! I love this part most!! I always include a card that I have written on Christmas Eve and placed in each of my loved ones stocking. I try to let them know how much the last year has meant to me and how important they are in my life. It is a tradition that I hope to continue even after they are married.
Today I had a fabulous day with friends we celebrated a brunch at Harvest Farms and it was scrumptious! If you have not visited in awhile you should check them out. I would have taken pics. my camera is on the blink...hmm wonder if Santa is listening?? Anywho, big hugs and thanks goes out to my sweet co-worker and friend Ms. Wendy, for the invitation! Wendy, girl you ROCK!
There are still last minute things on the list that need to be completed but after lunch tomorrow, hopefully I will be able to relax!

From our house to yours Merry Christmas and may you all have a safe, happy, fun filled day with your loved ones!

Asking for your prayers.....

It saddens me to say I have spent too much time at the funeral home this week and it continues...

we were at Church last night when the news came about Preslie Slatton passing away! Preslie was a 12 year old little girl and a relative to Joy Slatton one of our members. We were having our Christmas dinner and when I heard the news I just cried. Please keep the Slatton family in your prayers. I read Kim Cantrell's blog and she asked others to post this candle as a memorial for Preslie. We have several children in our hometown suffering with cancer and other illness, please pray for these little ones and their families. We are so blessed to have healthy children, and especially this time of the year is a reminder to us all "the true gifts of this Holiday is our children"

Please keep Tabetha and her family in your prayers on the unexpected death of their Aunt, Deanna Kirby. I know they are beyond saddened by this loss and as their Christan family we can pray for comfort during their time of sorrow.

I would also like to mention the following families please pray for them in their time of loss.

John and Sherri Blaire ~on the passing of John's dad.

Candy Woodlee on the passing of her Dad, Winton Dykes,

Bobby and Charlotte Boyd ~ Charlotte's Mother Mrs. Frances Brown,

Mrs. Dean Gay~ her husband Mr. Dewey Gay

and others I may fail to mention.

God Bless you and your family and may he keep you safe in the shelter of his hand!

No Menu Plan Monday

I am taking a break from Menu Planning due to the Holidays. With 5 parties to attend there is no way I could keep on track with daily menu's this week. Girls this is one of those times when it is OK to just wing it. I am just taking one day at time and marking the days of the calendar until Friday. After Friday, I may be able to breath! I hope you have a great week and I will be back to share the festivities of this week later on.
Have a blessed week.

These are a few of my favorite things!

I thought this would be fun to do during the month of December. Just post this banner on your sidebar and post a list of your favorite things. I know you say "Sheila, who has time to make a list"? If you chose to play along keep it simple and hopefully this will add a little cheer along the way. If you do decide to play along leave me a comment and I will stop by for a visit to see your list. Remember keep it simple and have fun!!

Merry Christmas,

Have a blessed day.

Sunday

courtesy of flicker
Yes, Sunday is my favorite day of the week!!! The picture above reminds me of peace. I crave simplicity and peace in my life. I love everything about Sundays and the tranquility it brings for me, my home, and my family. I try very hard to do no manual labor on this day. What makes it special to me first and foremost is the freedom to worship God. I pray that our nation will always allow us this freedom. The next special part of this day is the wonderful meal at my in-laws. It has nothing to do with the food, everything to do with our time spent together as a family. I love the Sunday paper, and I have a very specific way of reading it (has to be in certain order..haha). I try to take some time to look over my schedule for the coming week, I menu plan with my family on Sundays, and plan as many ways to help us get thought the next week with little to no stress as possible (impossible to accomplish)! I make special time with each child. We share current news, thoughts, fears, and coming events in our lives. This helps me feel connected to their independent lives as young adults. I try to do this on a daily basis, but it just seems that Sunday is a slower paced day for all of us! I sometimes even sneak in a nap if time permits.

Now it's your turn how do you spend your Sunday? What day is your favorite day and what makes it special to you and your loved ones.

Have a blessed Sunday!

I had to share this cute email with all of you!
Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything... Tutors, Mentors, flash cards, Special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner. To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference. Finally , little Zachary brought home his report Card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, His Mom looked at it and to her great surprise, little Zachary got an 'A' in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and said, 'Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?' Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no. 'Well, then,' she replied, Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? 'WHAT WAS IT ALREADY?' Little Zachary looked at her and said, 'Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren't fooling around.'
It makes you think, doesn't it?? May you all have a blessed weekend.

Tis the Season.......

Wow can you believe it is December! Where did November go? I guess this month will go by just as quickly. I vow to keep it simple (well as much as possible) this time of year! Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving, very traditional, spent with family, enjoying the fun times and taking a peek at a summer wedding in the process of being planned by Richard's Aunt and her sweet daughter.
The shopping was eventful to say the least. Friday was Chaos!! The Saturday shopping trip with my girlfriends was wonderful....we shopped, laughed, talked, ate, and just caught up on each others lives. Thank you Barbara, Glenda, and Paula!!! I made it home literally changed shoes and Richard and I headed out the door to the surprise party for Jeff Hobbs. Tina did a fabulous job of surprising him. Happy 50th Jeff!

Christmas in the Park was a huge success! There were so many little ones out, the smiles on their sweet faces said it all. The new laminar project was just beautiful and I think this is going to be a wonderful tradition that we decide to continue and hopefully it will grow with each year. We decided to purchase a brick in honor of our Warren County Children who are battling cancer. They were there to be honored for the ceremony. It was just very special and everyone was reminded of what this season is truly all about.

I opened my eyes Wednesday morning and felt like I could breath again, until Richard reminded me to look at my calendar for the remainder of the month! Whew....he just wanted me to remember to take it "one day at a time". There are 4 more Christmas parties, another surprise birthday party, and caroling, gifts to wrap, outside decorating to finish. Will we ever finish our to-do list?

This reminded me of the book we are studying on Wednesday night Ladies class. The theme of the book is based on keeping everything in balance. It has been a blessing to have this mid week bible study to remind us to keep things prioritized in our lives. We should never be to busy to put God first, and remember who is truly in control! God takes care of the whole world and he still has time for us! The least we can do is give him our time and attention, regardless of how large our to-do list is. I just wanted to remind you as I try desperately to remind myself to take a deep breath, give God the glory for the blessing, thank him for the gift of his Son, and just try hard not to sweat the small stuff the next few weeks.

Have a blessed weekend!

Taking a break

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I will be taking a break from Menu planning and posting until next week. I am not complaining when I say I am busy, I know everyone is busy during the Holiday season. If you are like me I had to make a list and I am checking it twice! lol

My to do list:
1. Thanksgiving Holiday
2. Big family dinner
3. Black Friday (shop till you drop)
4. Decorating my house
5. The Empty Nester's from church over Friday night.
6. Saturday our annual shopping trip out of town
with my girlfriends from Central Office
7. A surprise Birthday party for friend (also 6:30 Saturday night)
8. Church Sunday
9. A very big Junior Auxiliary Fundraiser with Christmas in the Park,

10 Babysitting with nephew and niece while Jalen had minor surgery today.
Jalen is home and doing great. We (Jensen, Karigan, Nona (J.B's mom), Ms. Kirby, and myself)made a welcome home sign and we each made a sweet card to help Jalen feel better. So keep my sweetie in your prayers and I am sure in a day or two he will be back to his normal self.
I will be back next week, until then may you each have a very blessed Thanksgiving and safe and happy day with you loved ones.
